Prevention

Public Education and Outreach

Public Education and Outreach assists Clayton County citizens with obtaining awareness and knowledge of what foreclosure prevention resources are available to them, free of charge, through the CCFRC. After conducting extensive research to assess the needs of the community, the CCFRC learned that a large percentage of foreclosures could be prevented if homeowners contacted their lenders to learn about the options available to them, such as alternative payment plans on delinquent mortgages, negotiated terms of loans, or other alternatives for which homeowners may be eligible. Furthermore, professional counseling services are critical to any foreclosure prevention programming.

To convey public information concerning foreclosure assistance, the Housing Authority of Clayton County funded the following communications when founding the CCFRC:

  • News Releases covering news and developments of the industry, through the CCFRC.
  • Letter distributed via direct mail to those residents facing foreclosure, as published each month in the County's legal organ – the Clayton News Daily.
  • Targeted mail-out to churches and other similar aid agencies.
  • Flyers and brochures in the school system, libraries, government offices, etc.
  • Promotion, via news media coverage and advertising, of Kick-off Media Event and Foreclosure Workshops held throughout the County, featuring HUD-approved counseling agencies on site to set appointments to discuss individual cases.
